What you'll be doing:

Senior Engineering Managers see their team as their product. While they are technically credible and know the details of what engineers work on, their time is spent safeguarding their team's health, hiring a world-class team, and putting them in the best position to succeed. They own the delivery of product commitments and are always looking to improve productivity. They must also coordinate across departments to accomplish collaborative goals. Engineering Leadership is cross-discipline a Senior Engineering Manager will manage other Engineering Managers across multiple technologies as well as lead technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Line management and mentoring of software engineers around best practice and encourage/contribute to their performance development
  • Understand Engineering KPIs and seek to improve them
  • Manage multiple engineering teams with at least two managers.
  • Assisting the development team in implementing a well-engineered technical solution
  • Work within the delivery team to break down technical tasks and provide feedback on proposed solution architecture
  • Driving better testing paradigms/automation/CI to reduce bugs and drive zero defect free philosophy
  • Provide your team with management mentorship
  • Improve product quality, security and performance
  • Involved in the hiring process for the technical roles required by the team
  • Become an experienced point of contact for other teams (client internal and 3rd party) within the client
  • Drive tech focused initiatives across an account

What you'll need:

Skills & experience

Must have

  • Amazing brokering skills: regularly achieve consensus amongst stakeholders
  • Collaborate effectively with others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Build teams that excel through our values
  • Technical credibility: Past experience as an engineer and leading teams thereof
  • Management credibility: Significant past experience as an engineering manager
  • Ability to understand, communicate and improve the quality of multiple teams
  • Ability to be successful managing at a remote-only company
  • Demonstrated successful partnership with stable counterparts
  • Exemplify diversity, inclusion, and belonging in leadership
  • Humble, servant leader
  • Strong ability and experience in Digital Technology (technical and delivery)
  • Delivery experience within an agile scrum/Kanban environment
  • Pro-active awareness of what individuals in their scrum(s) are working on and where they can be supported from a technical perspective
  • Experience in delivering projects from conception and into production
  • Passion for quality in both software development and team processes

Nice to have

  • Computer science education or equivalent experience
  • Passionate about open source and developer tools
  • Experience working with modern frontend frameworks (for example React, Vue.js)
  • Experience working on systems at massive (that is, consumer) scale
  • Deep open source experience
  • Experience working with global teams
  • Be inquisitive: Ask great questions
