Senior Solution Architect (Pre-sales)
Information Technology, London
Senior Solution Architect (Pre-sales)
Information Technology, London

The team you'll be working with:

Within the Applications Engineering practice, we enable our clients to escape their legacy application estate and unlock the power of good software, accelerate business value delivery and innovation, providing a holistic approach with multidisciplinary teams across Architecture, Development, Platforms and DevOps. We are at the forefront of the best application of AI technologies to drive improvements in software engineering and development outcomes and quality.

What you'll be doing:

As a Pre-Sales Solution Architect, you'll collaborate with our sales and business development teams as part of our pre-sales process, from initial client engagement, through requirements discovery, solution shaping, and proposal development, to final pitch.

Your focus will be on scoping, defining, designing and proposing technical solutions in areas like application modernisation, application integration, cloud native applications, digital experience products as well as being part of larger solution teams that pursue complex multi-service application services opportunities.

You will act as the bridge between client need, sales pressures and our wider internal delivery organisations, ensuring commercial viability, technical integrity, and clear differentiation in every engagement.

Another key focus area for this role is leading our efforts to adopt, integrate and implement AI enabled capabilities and tools into every stage of the SDLC, leading client conversations to showcase our offerings in this area and lead technical demonstrations of these. As part of this – a key responsibility is owning and evolving our UK&I application modernisation and augmented engineering / GenAI in SDLC offerings, refining our go-to-market strategy, and ensuring our propositions is aligning with our global strategy in this area.

Key responsibilities:

  • Own and lead the full pre-sales solutioning lifecycle, including proactive and formal RFx (RFI/RFP) activities, technical proposal development, and direct engagement with our sales account teams and client technology teams.
  • Engage with prospective and existing clients to identify how technology, especially Generative AI, can modernise applications and enhance software delivery as well as improve aspects of the SDLC.
  • Lead the development and articulation of robust technical architectures and solutions, ensuring they address specific client challenges and leverage our accelerators, IP, and partner capabilities.
  • Design and deliver compelling pre-sales collateral, including technical proposals, architecture blueprints, solution walk-throughs, and client-facing presentations.
  • Oversee pre-sales activities, including client workshops, technical walkthroughs, proofs of concept, and proposal development. Ensure all proposed solutions conform to industry best practices and uphold quality and security standards.
  • Build and nurture long-term relationships with key stakeholders and technology partners (Microsoft, AWS, GitHub, Google, etc.).
  • Work effectively with geo-distributed teams, balancing technical, commercial, and client engagement priorities.

What experience you'll bring:

You combine technical credibility in application and software development (legacy and modern) with a consultative, commercial mindset and a pleasant easy to engage demeanour. You're as comfortable with a whiteboard as you are with a client’s senior technical team, and have a proven ability to translate complex requirements into practical, high-impact solutions. You are adept at participating in technical discussions with confidence, while also understanding the value of seeking expertise when needed.

Must-Have

  • Extensive experience as a Solution Architect in consultancy or client-facing roles within custom software development and cloud technologies, with direct, hands-on ownership of pre-sales solution architecture and the entire RFx lifecycle. At least 2 or 3 full cycles of bids in excess of £5m value.
  • Broad architecture experience across multiple technology stacks and cloud platforms (not limited to a single vendor or low-code approach). We are mainly looking for an application and digital architecture background – cloud platform, infrastructure or managed service expertise is not core/critical to this role.
  • Strong hands-on experience in backend engineering/architecture (Java, C#, etc.), with a working understanding of cloud-native and modern SDLC practices. At least 3-5 years.
  • Experience of delivering or integrating AI solutions within the SDLC (e.g., AI-powered coding, intelligent automation, testing, automated migration of legacy apps). At least 2 implementations.
  • Well-developed communication and stakeholder management skills, able to build trust and influence at all levels (up to Head of Functions). Able to technically lead and guide multidisciplinary, distributed teams spanning client, UK and global delivery – team size up to 5-7 in large presales engagements.
  • Ability to develop clear technical documentation, diagrams, and articulate solutions both internally and externally – typically experience developed over last 5-7 years.
