What you'll be doing:

Working under direct supervision, you will apply your developing expertise in network security, infrastructure technologies, and security controls to support the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure infrastructure solutions. You will contribute to infrastructure security projects, perform security configurations, and develop your skills across network security technologies while receiving regular guidance from senior team members.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Infrastructure Security Implementation Support

  • Assist in implementing network security controls including firewalls, IPS/IDS, and proxies under supervision
  • Configure basic network security policies and access control lists following approved designs
  • Support network segmentation implementations and VLAN configurations
  • Assist with VPN setup and secure remote access solution deployments
  • Document network security configurations and changes accurately
  • Perform routine security device maintenance and updates under guidance

Security Technology Configuration

  • Support deployment and configuration of security technologies including SIEM, EDR, and endpoint protection
  • Assist in integrating security tools with existing infrastructure under supervision
  • Configure security monitoring rules and alerts based on approved templates
  • Support security technology testing and validation activities
  • Maintain security tool inventories and configuration documentation
  • Troubleshoot basic security technology issues with senior guidance

Security Configuration and Hardening

  • Apply security hardening standards to servers, workstations, and network devices under supervision
  • Implement CIS Benchmark configurations for Windows and Linux systems
  • Perform security baseline assessments using automated scanning tools
  • Document configuration compliance status and exceptions
  • Support remediation activities for configuration vulnerabilities
  • Maintain secure configuration templates and standard operating procedures

Security Monitoring and Incident Support

  • Monitor security alerts and events from SIEM and security tools under guidance
  • Perform initial triage of security incidents and escalate appropriately
  • Assist in security incident investigations and evidence collection
  • Document security incidents and response actions taken
  • Support routine security health checks and operational tasks
  • Contribute to security monitoring process improvements

Technical Documentation and Reporting

  • Create and maintain accurate technical documentation for security implementations
  • Produce network diagrams, configuration guides, and runbooks under supervision
  • Document security procedures and operational workflows
  • Contribute to knowledge base articles and technical wikis
  • Prepare routine security status reports and metrics
  • Maintain project documentation and deliverable repositories

Security Testing and Validation

  • Perform straightforward security testing activities under supervision
  • Conduct vulnerability scans and analyze results with guidance
  • Validate security control implementations against requirements
  • Support penetration testing activities and remediation verification
  • Test security patches and updates in lab environments
  • Document testing results and findings clearly

What experience you'll bring:

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

Foundational Security Technical Skills

  • Basic understanding of network security principles and architectures
  • Familiarity with firewall concepts and basic configuration (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Fortinet)
  • Knowledge of common security technologies (antivirus, IPS/IDS, proxies)
  • Understanding of Windows and Linux operating system security
  • Basic scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation tasks

Network and Infrastructure Fundamentals

  • Network protocols: TCP/IP fundamentals, routing basics, switching, VLANs
  • Network services: DNS, DHCP, NTP, Active Directory basics
  • Virtualization: Basic VMware or Hyper-V knowledge
  • Operating systems: Windows Server administration, Linux command line
  • Cloud basics: Awareness of AWS, Azure, or GCP security concepts

Security Tools and Technologies

  • Experience with or willingness to learn SIEM platforms (Splunk, QRadar, Sentinel)
  • Familiarity with endpoint protection platforms (CrowdStrike, Carbon Black, Defender)
  • Knowledge of vulnerability scanning tools (Nessus, Qualys, OpenVAS)
  • Understanding of network monitoring and packet analysis tools
  • Basic knowledge of security automation and orchestration concepts

  • Ability to follow documented procedures and best practices

Certifications Required

  • Security+ or equivalent foundation security certification - Mandatory
  • Network+ or CCNA certification - Required or in progress
  • Microsoft or Linux certification - Preferred
  • Working toward: CCNA Security, SSCP, or vendor security certifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • 2-4 years of experience in IT infrastructure, networking, or systems administration
  • 1-2 years exposure to security technologies and practices
  • Hands-on experience with network devices and security tools
  • Experience working in team environments on technical projects
  • Demonstrated interest in developing cybersecurity career
