NTT DATA is a trusted global innovator with over 100,000 professionals in 50+ countries. Headquartered in Tokyo, we bring elements of our Japanese heritage—precision, long-term thinking, and social responsibility—into our UK work. In the UK, we work across telecoms, financial services, manufacturing, and the public sector, delivering end-to-end services from strategy to implementation.

Tangity, part of the NTT DATA Design Network, is a global design studio dedicated to humanising complexity. We combine Strategy, Technology, and Design to create meaningful, inclusive, and impactful services that improve lives and systems. Our studios work closely with delivery teams to embed design deeply into every project and across every touchpoint.

What you'll be doing:

The Role

We are seeking a mid-level User Researcher to join our team.  The ideal candidate will bring proven experience working in a design-led environment, with a strong understanding of design processes, ways of working, and how research can best support designers and cross-functional teams in their decision making.

You will work autonomously, collaborating with designers, BAs, developers, and product managers to ensure evidence drives decisions at every stage. You’ll also contribute to service strategy, guide team ways of working, and foster a user-first mindset across the wider project and client organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver end-to-end research across multiple initiatives, balancing priorities with efficiency.
  • Plan, conduct, and analyse usability testing (moderated and unmoderated), as well as other qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Collaborate closely with designers and design teams, ensuring research directly informs and shapes the design process.
  • Drive stakeholder engagement, clearly communicating insights and recommendations to influence business and design decisions.
  • Confidently challenge assumptions and the status quo, ensuring user-centered thinking is embedded in both strategy and design delivery.
  • Engage in strategic conversations with the business and design leadership to shape direction and product outcomes.
  • Operate fully independently, from scoping to delivery, with accountability for research quality and impact.

What experience you'll bring:

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience as a User Researcher, ideally at mid–senior level, with a background in or exposure to design teams and environments.
  • Strong understanding of design processes, with the ability to work in tandem with designers and contribute to collaborative design-thinking practices.
  • Project management and time management abilities, comfortable running several projects in parallel.
  • Expertise in usability testing (both moderated and unmoderated) and other core research methods.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, able to influence and build trust across design and business teams.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to balance tactical delivery and long-term vision.

Qualifications:

What We're Looking For

  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in user research, with a background in UX Design.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in User Research, Psychology, HCI, Anthropology, or a related field
  • Extensive experience leading user research across complex digital services in agile environments
  • Strong portfolio or case studies showing research that informed successful service or product outcomes
  • Proficiency with research tools and methods including usability testing, depth interviews, journey mapping, and persona creation
  • Comfortable presenting findings to senior stakeholders and advocating for users in delivery decisions
  • Working knowledge of GDS service standards, assessments, and digital service design principles
  •  Experience working on UK government or local authority services
  • Familiarity with GOV.UK design system, forms, and content patterns
  • Understanding of digital analytics tools and the role of behavioural data in triangulating insight
  • Exposure to service blueprinting or policy/service integration
