Design, London

The team you'll be working with:

As a Midweight User Researcher at Tangity, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping human-centred experiences across a variety of sectors, including banking, insurance, and public services, within agile, cross-functional teams. With 5+ years of experience in user research, UX, or service design, you’ll bring deep expertise in understanding user needs and translating complex business and organisational challenges into clear, evidence-based insights that guide design and delivery.

You’ll lead research activities from planning and conducting qualitative and quantitative studies to synthesising insights and communicating findings that drive strategic design decisions. You’ll work closely with designers, product managers, and developers to ensure solutions are inclusive, accessible, and grounded in genuine user understanding.

Applicants must be clearable, have proven experience with GDS (Government Digital Service) standards and be able to demonstrate their work through a portfolio, case studies or work samples.

What you'll be doing:

  • Work on end-to-end user research projects, from scoping and planning through to delivery, ensuring insights directly inform UX and service design strategies
  • Apply a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods (e.g. depth interviews, contextual inquiries, diary studies, usability testing, surveys) to uncover user needs, motivations, and behaviours across digital and service touchpoints
  • Contribute to UX and Service Design streams to co-create personas, journey maps, blueprints, and behavioural frameworks that translate insights into tangible design opportunities
  • Synthesise complex findings into clear, actionable insights and communicate strategic recommendations that shape both user experience and service delivery
  • Facilitate workshops, research playbacks, and alignment sessions to build shared understanding and influence cross-functional decision-making
  • Test early concepts, prototypes, and service interactions to validate assumptions, reduce risk, and iterate based on evidence
  • Champion inclusive design and accessibility, embedding these principles into both research planning and experience design

What experience you'll bring:

Must Have:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in user research, and UX or service design
  • Strong portfolio showcasing research impact, storytelling, and end-to-end project involvement
  • Proven expertise in user-centred design principles, qualitative and quantitative research methods, and translating insights into design opportunities
  • Skilled in planning, conducting, and analysing research independently, from discovery to validation
  • Able to communicate findings clearly and persuasively, influencing decisions at all organisational levels
  • Confident in facilitating workshops and engaging with senior stakeholders
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and proven experience with GDS (Government Digital Service) standards
  • Eligible for SC clearance (British citizen or equivalent, with 5 years of continuous UK residency)
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills

Nice to Have:

  • Degree in User Research, Psychology, HCI, Service Design, or a related discipline
  • Experience working in complex, regulated sectors such as banking or insurance
  • Interest in systems thinking or organisational design, applying service design to drive broader transformation
