The team you'll be working with:

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Snowflake Architect with a proven track record in delivering data and analytics solutions within the NHS. You will lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of Snowflake platforms that empower NHS Trusts to turn complex healthcare data into actionable insights.

A key strength we are looking for is the ability to confidently discuss data in the context of NHS statutory reporting obligations, understanding how these requirements link directly to funding streams, hospital processes, and operational decision-making. This role demands both deep technical expertise and a practical understanding of healthcare data flows, governance, and compliance.

What you'll be doing:

  • Designing end-to-end Snowflake architectures for NHS healthcare data platforms.
  • Advising on data strategies, governance, and security models in line with NHS and statutory requirements.
  • Leading the development of scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and data models optimised for healthcare analytics and reporting.
  • Ensuring platforms meet the needs of mandatory NHS reporting, supporting funding submissions, service planning, and performance monitoring.
  • Optimising platform performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability to meet both clinical and operational needs.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams in an Agile delivery environment to ensure rapid, value-driven delivery.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentoring to developers, analysts, and data engineers.

What experience you'll bring:

  • Extensive experience as a Snowflake Architect delivering large-scale data and analytics solutions in a healthcare/NHS Trust setting.
  • Proven understanding of NHS statutory reporting obligations, their impact on funding allocations, and their link to hospital operational processes.
  • Strong expertise in SQL, Snowflake, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Skilled in data integration tools and building robust healthcare data pipelines.
  • Solid knowledge of NHS data governance, privacy regulations, and compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills — able to translate complex technical concepts for both technical teams and clinical/operational leaders.

Competencies / Critical Skills:

  • Proven experience in data engineering and pipeline development on Snowflake and cloud-native platforms.
  • Hands-on expertise across the data lifecycle: ingestion, transformation, modelling, governance, and consumption.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience leading or mentoring teams of engineers to deliver high-quality scalable data solutions.

Technical Expertise:

  • Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks.
  • Deep expertise with Snowflake features (warehouses, Snowpark, data sharing, performance tuning).
  • Proficiency in ETL/ELT tools such as DBT, Matillion, Talend, or equivalent.
  • Strong SQL and Python (or equivalent language) skills for data manipulation and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Knowledge of data modelling methodologies (star schemas, Data Vault, Kimball, Inmon).
  • Familiarity with data lake architectures and distributed processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
  • Experience with version control tools (GitHub, Bitbucket) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience, Qualifications, and Education:
  • Experience: Minimum 5–8 years in data engineering, data warehousing, or data architecture roles, with at least 3+ years working with Snowflake.
  • Education: University degree required.
  • Preferred: BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field
  • Snowflake certifications (SnowPro Core, Advanced) highly desirable.
